Diet Coke with Splenda is far superior to regular Diet Coke, at least for a non diet coke drinker like me. If you already like that bitter after taste then you won’t like splenda diet coke, cause it ain’t there.

Time Zone
Wednesday, May 4th, 2005I noticed my times are all screwy on WP since I sprung forward so I installed a Time Zone Plugin so I don’t have to think about it.
Update: Forget it. It seems to conflict with the version of Spam-Karma2 I have installed. And spam karma is more important.
Update 2 (The revenge): Looks like its a bug in WP that hoses the interaction. According to this
java blogging client
Wednesday, May 4th, 2005This is posted with BlogEd, which seems to be pretty simple, but has fancy WYSIWYG stuff in it. Java web start looks pretty cool, at least it worked on my home machine without any fuss. Of course I do not know how to open the program again. Anyway here is wondering if the inline image stuff works:

Updated: to remove all kinds of crazy markup that BlogEd put into the entry. I ended up posting 3 entries and thought I lost one before I figured out how to use it. Plus swing is still icky. The inline picture worked which was really cool.
Braindead rewards
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005So many have signed up for a Barnes&Noble big brother 10% off card where you pay them $10 and you get 10% off of everything for a year. Waldenbooks/Borders used to have one also, and I guess I signed up for it once because I received a rewards card in the mail claiming they are discontinuing their old program and to rergister on their site and use the one they sent me, because now they don’t charge you $10 a year, it is FREE!
Well I looked into these so called rewards. It’s a farce, it is overly complicated, and the odds of me saving any money are slim. The odds of them collecting valuable marketing information on me are high. The main reward is a “Personal Shopping Day” which requires me to spend $50 in one calendar month, and then within 30 days of that I can get 10% off of almost everything in their store, for one day.
Junk. I hope this blows up in their face, because it is way to complicated and provides me virtually no benefit over competing big brother member programs.

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005A fundamental difference in thought. Search for “bash script” and the first result is a guide on how bash scripting works and how to write your own. Search for “batch script” and you get a collection of canned scripts.
snack walking
Monday, May 2nd, 2005Sometimes I want a snack, and rather than stopping myself I try and earn it, so I try and find a store that is in a reasonable walking distance and walk there for it. Of course I like walking too so this all ties together.
Anyway I found a place to walk to that is about a 10 minute walk from my current place of employment En Route at the Princeton Junction train station. It would be about a 20 minute walk if I didn’t know about a short cut through the swamp behind my office building.
Plus I got to see a bunch of cabbies standing around at the station telling jokes in some other language.
